SCDPS REPORTS TEN KILLED ON SOUTH CAROLINA ROADS
APRIL 7 – APRIL 9, 2017

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 10 persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, April 7, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 9, at midnight.

As of April 9, 2017, 242 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 264 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.

 

Of the 172 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 86 were not wearing safety belts. 

 

Through midnight April 9, 36 pedestrians died compared to 35 in 2016; 24 motorcyclists died compared to 35 in 2016; and five bicyclists died compared to eight in 2016 on state roads and highways.
