SCDPS REPORTS EIGHT KILLED ON SOUTH CAROLINA ROADS
APRIL 21 – APRIL 23, 2017

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, April 21, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 23, at midnight.

As of April 23, 2017, 284 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 290 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.

 

Of the 198 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 100 were not wearing safety belts. 

 

Through midnight April 23, 43 pedestrians died compared to 39 in 2016; 30 motorcyclists died compared to 35 in 2016; and six bicyclists died compared to ten in 2016 on state roads and highways.
