SCDPS REPORTS SEVEN KILLED ON SOUTH CAROLINA ROADS

SEPTEMBER 15 – SEPTEMBER 17, 2017

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 15, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, September 17, at midnight.

As of September 10, 673 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 723 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.


Of the 466 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 223 were not wearing seat belts. 


Through midnight September 17, 92 pedestrians have died compared to 101 in 2016; 82 motorcyclists have died compared to 108 in 2016; and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 19 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
