SCDPS REPORTS ONE KILLED ON SOUTH CAROLINA ROADS

SEPTEMBER 29 – OCTOBER 1, 2017

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of one person killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 29, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, October 1, at midnight.

As of October 1, 713 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 760 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.


Of the 489 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 237 were not wearing seat belts.


Through midnight October 1, 98 pedestrians have died compared to 107 in 2016; 90 motorcyclists have died compared to 110 in 2016; and 14 bicyclists have died compared to 21 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
