From Your Brothers With Love

On Hwy 527 in Elliott, SC, just after midnight your car, traveling at a high rate of speed ran off the road hitting a tree and bursting into flames.

You rode off that night never to return to your wife, Anne, your son, Adam, and your brother Bill. You had worked hard to move from Irmo, SC, back to Camden, SC, your hometown. Mom was sick and you wanted to move closer to home - but mom passed away in April 2003. Her death was especially hard for you, but the move and working in the yard of your new home helped. You had plans for this house in Camden. You had worked to get the Irmo house ready for market having lived there for 20 plus years. Now our hopes were dashed. No husband for Anne's old age; and no brother to share memories and grow older with again.

Charles Edward Johnson was born in Camden, SC, the eldest of two sons of the late Marey McLeod and Tom Johnson. Growing up with a big brother spawns many memories. At Camden High School you played first chair trombone under Mr. Basden and finished in 1972. Mom was so proud to see you off to Anderson Junior College. At Anderson you were inducted into Pho Theta Kappa National Honor Society. At USC-Columbia you completed your Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1976.

Later that year you married Anne in Anderson and later settled in Irmo, SC. You found that you were a good salesman - and you won awards as manager of Radio Shack. You joined the Army Reserves and server honorably for four years. With Telcom Communications, you continued to strive to win big accounts. Your son, Charles Adam, was born in 1983 and you were so proud he bore part of your name.

Your gentle way, your determination and your love for your family is what we will always remember about Charles. You left us too soon, but thanks for the gifts you gave to those left behind.
