My son, Shannon, died on a very cold night of January when he left from a New Year's Eve party. He had a little too much to drink, and he thought he could make it home.

Fate proved him wrong. As he left, his friends tried to get him to let them take him home, but my son was stubborn sometimes as all kids can be. With alcohol in your body, it is even worse. So, my son lost control of his truck as soon as he had left the party. I will never forget when I got that horrifying phone call. It seemed at that point my world just came to an end ... like the life was sucked out and I couldn't breathe.

My son loved his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, son, brother and friend. We miss him dearly and think of him everyday that we are here on earth. If I can say anything to young kids out there: please don't drink and drive.

One night of drinking can turn your life on a dime and cause massive hurt for your family. It's not worth it. Learn from my son's death. Just say no to kids when they ask you to drink.

His father still has a hard time even to this day, but I know he is in a better place.

Shannon, we love you. You're in our hearts always.

Love, Mom and Dad
